Success with Constructive Criticism

When building a team it's important to surround yourself by a team who are autonomous, contributors and dedicated. Surround yourself with direct reports you can not only teach and help with career growth, but those you can learn from. However, once built, leading will sometimes involve critiquing. Constructive criticism can be beneficial in providing guidance and direction and should be carefully thought through before being given. When managing, the right amount of criticism is key because providing too much constructive criticism simply devolves into criticism, non-constructive or even destructive, and the hard work spent building a team will be wasted. To be surrounded by success and a dedicated team requires more motivation than negative feedback. Ultimately, it is better to be surrounded by those who want to be there rather than those who have to be there.
